Suspended Animation

Atomic RocketH2S Induces a Suspended AnimationLike State in Mice: Mammals normally maintain their core body temperature (CBT) despite changes in environmental temperature. Exceptions to this norm include suspended animationlike states such as hibernation, torpor, and estivation. These states are all characterized by marked decreases in metabolic rate, followed by a loss of homeothermic control in which the animal's CBT approaches that of the environment. We report that hydrogen sulfide can induce a suspended animation-like state in a nonhibernating species, the house mouse (Mus musculus). This state is readily reversible and does not appear to harm the animal. This suggests the possibility of inducing suspended animation-like states for medical applications (and space travel!).

Non-talk

Our language and empty words, or how to lie and make people accept it:
Election 2005: Cliché watch, BBC News

In the Matrix, the self-delusions that sustain the non-talk:
Do you believe you're fighting for something? For more that your survival? Can you tell me what it is? Do you even know? Is it freedom? Or truth? Perhaps peace? Yes? No? Could it be for love? Illusions, Mr. Anderson. Vagaries of perception. The temporary constructs of a feeble human intellect trying desperately to justify an existence that is without meaning or purpose. Agent Smith

Atreyu

Atreyu

Atreyu, yesterday at the Astoria. It was fun and used up a lot of energy - trying to remain standing. I especially enjoyed the massive crowd hanging out around the entrance after the gig, it felt like at a festival, except this was downtown London with traffic everywhere!
