Chocolate

christfrontpage (14k image)There's a big debate in the US about whether this chocolate statue should be allowed to be seen by art gallery visitors in New York or not. It will not be shown at Easter, as was originally planned. Some people feel that people from a particular faith can condemn caricatures with a deligious content, then Christians should be allowed to ban chocolate statues with a religious content.

I thought about this as I went to a party last night, which took place in a disused Church. I had been to Paradiso in Amsterdam, but this particular venue looks like the real thing, with organ and all. To trample what used to be considered god-inhabited space, moving to the beat of electronic music, spilling bloody mary onto the ground, this is Holland today.

Peace please

falungong (24k image)Today, I shared a few moments of peace with Falun Gong activists in front of the Peace Palace, and posed for a few pictures. I also had a visitor from Rotterdam who wanted to spend Sunday morning swimming in the sea. He was surprised to see that he was the only swimmer on this sunny (but windy) March day. Undeterred, he took a dive in the icy water.

Chicken

Chicken As I was walking out of the office, I crossed a chicken that was pacing the pavement in front of the entrance, obviously waiting for someone or for some other chicken. The chicken didn't look familiar with this particular piece of pavement, as it was somewhat hesitantly picking up crumbs and bits from the ground. This slight awkward attitude of the chicken made me think that both it and I would probably rather have paced a very different pavement - nice crumb-filled soil for the chicken, and more adventurous ground for the man.

A day in London

Fashion underwear showBikini fashion showAs always when in London, I try to do as much of everything as I can to remind me of all the great times I had when I was still liviing here. But this weekend is a real success, with a successful shopping spree and enough drinking worthy of an englishman. A underwear fashion show at Selfridges really got me in the mood. Today, it'll be brunch, watching St. Patrick's day parade, visiting an art exhibition and crawling through Brick Lane for quirky things for my flat.

And finally, it's Rita's birthday - even with the great times here, I still wish I was in Bishkek to celebrate properly.

Youth House

The stunning Copenhagen Youth House I had the chance to visit in December is being demolished now. Such a shame, I can't understand this. See for yourself... (didn't have the heart to).

At the Paard

A. describes the local girls as having the fresh face of girls returning from milking cows. Quality!

Skyline

From the roof on top of my flat, I can see The Hague's skyline. It is dominated by a view of the Peace Palace. It is a nice, yet dull sight. But after seeing the movies "The Last King of Scotland", about Uganda's Idi Amin, I cannot help but think what the building is used for. And a little further away, today's war criminals are being defended in court by young people like me. Defending people who have been convicted of sending kids to war. Or of other things you hardly think about when doing your shopping for organic vegetables at the store across the street. I'm now enjoying the Moon eclipse (through the clouds as much as I can)... I could have been seeing it clearly with a few friends from my old uni at an event in Monaco, if I'd been a little luckier with my travel plans. Off to Scotland tomorrow...
